Overview

Located at 39 Buckingham Ave in Springvale, Quan Lua stands as a beacon of authentic Vietnamese cuisine in Melbourne’s vibrant food scene. This restaurant is more than just a place to eat—it’s a destination for lovers of traditional Vietnamese flavors, especially those craving the rustic, homestyle dishes that define Hanoi’s street food culture.

Quan Lua specializes in classic Vietnamese dishes with standout offerings like Bun Cha Hanoi, Bun Bo Hue, and the signature grilled pork chop rice, proudly cooked over charcoal for that unmistakable smoky aroma and satisfying texture. Regulars praise the pork chop for its rich, slightly sweet notes and perfectly charred crust, though some recommend arriving early to beat the inevitable dinner queue that forms, a testament to the restaurant’s popularity.

The restaurant’s menu captures the breadth of Vietnamese culinary tradition. From fresh and healthy vermicelli and salad dishes such as Bánh Hỏi Bò Lá Lốp and Bún Chả Ốc, to comforting rice plates like Cơm Gà Giòn and Cơm Chiên Dương Châu, Quan Lua caters to both adventurous eaters and those seeking familiar home-style meals. The vibrant salads—like the Mango Salad and Papaya Salad with Beef Jerky—deliver a refreshing counterpoint to the smoky meats, balancing richness with crisp, fragrant herbs.

Quan Lua’s beverage selection complements the food perfectly, offering traditional drinks such as Vietnamese Ice Coffee and homemade Sữa Đậu Nành, which add to the authenticity and overall sensory experience. These drinks provide a cool respite alongside bold, flavorful dishes.

Atmospherically, Quan Lua is bustling and lively, embodying the informal, communal spirit of Vietnamese eateries. While the space may sometimes struggle with staffing during peak hours, the warm and efficient service helps create a welcoming environment for families and groups. The restaurant clearly understands its audience—those who appreciate genuine Vietnamese fare served simply but expertly.

In summary, Quan Lua is a must-visit for anyone seeking a true taste of Vietnam in Springvale. Its expertly grilled pork chops, hearty broths, and vibrant salads combine freshness with depth of flavor. Always has a long queue. Need to beat the dinner line get there early. . Nice smell of pork chop. Tried few items with a star on the menu. Smells, Taste and look good. But the pork chop was a little dry. The salad is definitely good. Will eat again. Not a fan of the crab meat noodle. Good value.

Quan Lua Springvale: Authentic Vietnamese Flavors Done Right In my second attempt, I finally found Quan Lua open—and it was absolutely worth the wait! I visited with a friend from Northern Vietnam, and we tried both the Bun Cha and Bun Bo Hue. Her verdict? It’s as close to home as it gets! The Bun Cha featured fresh ingredients, with perfectly grilled pork that had a slight sweetness and a beautiful smoky char. The herbs, vermicelli, and dipping sauce tied everything together perfectly. The Bun Bo Hue was equally impressive, with a rich, savory broth that had just the right kick, packed with tender beef and pork slices. Both dishes were hearty, flavorful, and incredibly filling. For authentic Vietnamese food in Springvale, Quan Lua is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back!

Probably my fave com tam place right now in Melbourne. Anytime the pork is cooked over coal, I’m instantly impressed. The flavour is unmistakable. Kudos to aunty that seated us quickly, gave us children’s cutlery for our kids including scissors without even asking. She just knows. What a boss!

First visit Sep 2022. Weekend. Understaffed but food amazing. It seems that there's always a queue outside so be ready to wait a while during peak hours. Food is definitely worth the wait though. The pork chop is ridiculous good. Definitely switching to this place next time.

Best Bun Cha I've had in Australia maybe better than we had in Vietnam. The meat is super smokey and tender cooked over coals the herbs were fresh and the drinks were great as well. We had to wait in line outside as it's busy, don't go if your in a rush as there might be a queue. High chairs are available, we'll be back!

Ranked as one of the best pork chops in Melbourne, I had to give it a try. Ordered their Southern Vietnamese-style beef salad, charcoal-grilled pork on rice with extra chops, and ice white coffee. This combination was unbeatable. The salad was amazing, and the charcoal aroma from the pork chop was fantastic with great texture. The ice white coffee was just as impressive as other Vietnamese coffees. I'll definitely be returning to try out their other signature items.

Came here on a Sunday night, there is no surcharge for weekends. We ordered spring rolls, Bun Cha Hà Nội, this is the store speciality, Com Tom dac Biet , broken price with pork chop and Banh Hoi which is the betel leaf grilled beef on vermicelli salad. The meats were very well grilled and the char flavour is strong, their dipping sauces are not too sweet and the quantity of each dish is very generous. Their prices are also very reasonable and the overall vibe of the restaurant is a friendly, confident and homely restaurant that welcomes diners like going to a friend’s house for a great meal.
